Totally Artrageous!
Last night I went to the Lenox Square Bloomingdale's for a party celebrating the department store's new Artrageous initiative, which is a really cool collaboration between Bloomies and several city galleries. From now until the end of the year, pieces by (and demonstrations from) area artists can be seen throughout the store.
First up is the Savannah College of Art and Design. The installation has been up a few days, but through this Saturday, works from SCAD students-including fine art, fashion, jewelry, a so-weird-it's-cool rubberband table, pillows, and plates-can be found nestled among stacks of polos, towering over heels and boots, or in display cabinets at ends of escalators.
Several of the artists have been touting their talents live and in living color in the department store this week, such as SCAD-alum (and Valedictorian!) Tiffani Taylor (working on the poppy piece amongst purses, at right) and fashion designer Shabnam Rostami (draping the forms at left).
All pieces throughout the store are available for purchase, and after the SCAD exhibit ends, other Atlanta galleries such as the Tew Galleries will be keeping Artrageous alive.
